Anne Lyne
Feast Day: 27th February
Anne Lyne was from Dunmow, Essex. At the time it was illegal to be a Catholic, so she was disowned by her father when she converted to Catholicism and married a Catholic.
Her husband was imprisoned for being a Catholic and was exiled and died in 1594 in Flanders, Belgium.
Anne stayed in England where she hid Catholic priests in a London safe-house so they were not executed. Anne was hanged once she was found out.
Due to her heroic and faithful actions, Pope Paul VI canonized Anne Lyne in 1970 as one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales.
St Anne Lyne inspires us to strive for generosity and sacrifice to those around us and for the common good without seeking any gain for ourselves. Her life also demonstrates that it is important to stand up for what you believe in even when it’s not popular.
